Rockwood Hero 5K & 1 Mile

Ballwin, MO

Want to be a part of an event that involves exercise, a shirt, and a great meal for a low price that all goes to a good cause?  Come out to honor students who died in the War on Terror and First Responders who died serving the St. Louis Metropolitan community.  Rockwood’s tribute began as a barbecue in 2011 recognizing the personal sacrifice of Lafayette High School student, Army Specialist Peter Navarro, who died in Iraq in 2005.  Subsequent barbecue in 2012 honored Rockwood students from Eureka High School – Marine Corporal Riley Baker; Rockwood Summit – Army SSGT Edward Forrest Jr.; Marquette High School – Army Specialist Zach Fisher and Lafayette High School – Army Specialist Paul Varner – all gave their lives in service to our country.   In 2013, the barbecue honored veterans worldwide by paying tribute to Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Neal White whose family dedicated Camp Hope in Farmington, Missouri in his honor as a refuge for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.   Finally in 2014, Backstoppers, Inc. was recognized as way to support the spouses of police officers, firefighters and paramedics/EMTs who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Barbecue proceeds established scholarships in the name of Rockwood veterans and for financial support of Camp Hope and Backstoppers, Inc.  This year’s inaugural Rockwood Hero 5K/1Mile Walk, will allocate proceeds to each high school in support of academic achievement programs.   Chesterfield American Legion Post 556, Sons of the American Legion and Metro West/ Monarch Fire Districts are valued partners in this endeavor as they have loyally supported Rockwood’s tribute to veterans and First Responders.
